Activation of the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse

For the second consecutive year the Thousand Islands Repeater Club participated in the International Lighthouse and Lightship weekend (IllW) on Saturday August 17, 2013. We activated the Tibbetts Point lighthouse, located where Lake Ontario flows into the St. Lawrence River.
This was NOT a competition. It was an event to "promote public awareness of lighthouses and lightships and their need for preservation and restoration, and at the same time to promote amateur radio and to foster International goodwill" (from the ILLW website).
We began setting up at approximately 9 AM on the morning of Saturday the 17th. Thanks to those who joined us and had some fun with amateur radio and brought recognition to one of the few lighthouses left using its original Fourth Order Fresnel lens.
Also to note - the Hostel at the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse held a Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Cape Vincent Food Pantry in the afternoon of August 17th from 4-7PM along with an open house of the facilities. Cost was $5 for Adults and $2 for Children, plus a non-perishable food item for each. It was a great way to end the day!
