Super Science Saturday

2/17/2016

Members of the Thousand Islands Repeater Club set up an amateur radio demonstration at the  annual "Super Science Saturday" at Jefferson Community College on Feb. 8th.

On display were  examples of HF rigs, antennas,  portables, literature about HAM radio, and a variety of QSL cards from around the world.  There was also a digital mode demonstration on a Raspberry Pi computer, Signalink and Baofeng HT radio.  The most popular, by far, was the CW practice key, where kids were encouraged to try to tap out their name in Morse Code.

Unfortunately, our antenna placement didn't allow for  making more than a few contacts, even though band conditions were good.

The consensus was that we all were very pleased with the turnout and that it was  something that the club will definitely want to do again next year.
